Our top picks for stylish maternity wear

Posted on 31 July 2017

When you're a newly pregnant mama, finding your pregnancy style is no small feat. Sure, for the first trimester you can (possibly) squeeze into your old clothes, undoing a zipper or a button every now and then for a bit of comfort. Into trimester two, all pretty pregnancy dreams likely become a reality, with flowing dresses, loose silky tops and embellished sandals. Come trimester three, and comfort becomes the top priority. It seems this is when most style gets thrown out the window, and the husband or boyfriend's sweaters start to get a work out.

It's a nine month-long fashion minefield.

Having been through it four times collectively, we can confidently call ourselves experts in finding a pregnancy style. Rather than fumbling your way through, make a few solid investments at the beginning of your pregnancy, and enjoy a stylish, comfortable and easy pregnancy wardrobe. Here are our top picks.

The Ten Active Leggings
Well, obviously. Whether you're wearing them to prenatal yoga or styled with a loose shirt and boots for the weekend, these are the go-to styles. We recommend The Ally for gym-goers and The Anna for mocktails. You can't go wrong.

Francis & Henry Dress
When you're pregnant, sleep becomes a battleground. So do your best to make it a comfortable one. We can't go past the Francis & Henry nursing dress (pictured), which can be worn throughout pregnancy and then while you're in the new mama stage for easy breastfeeding access. It's not only comfortable, but is truly gorgeous, so you can wear it all day Sunday without anyone batting an eyelid.

Hatch Jumpsuit
You'll want an outfit that you can take from the beach to an afternoon cocktail party, and this gorgeous jumpsuit hits the mark. It will also grow with your belly, so can be worn throughout every bit of your pregnancy.

Good Jeans
A good pair of jeans goes a long way in your pregnancy and beyond. Buy a pair that feels great, ideally in a figure-hugging style so they can be worn with loose tops while still looking polished.

Bassike Tops
While they're not maternity, Bassike tops are fabulous for investing in while you're in your early pregnancy. They go with everything, are loose enough to accommodate a growing bump, and always look good. Just buy a size up.

What are your favourite maternity style must-haves?
